This is our regular live literature open mic, with 5-minute slots available for your poetry, stories or monologues. You are welcome to read your own work. July’s host is Julie McKiernan with special guest, Dave Morgan.

Dave Morgan is a writer, educationalist and community arts and music promoter in the North-West of England. He co-founded the spoken word organisation Write Out Loud and is a founder director of Bolton’s arts, culture and heritage CIC, Live from Worktown.

Dave has had two poetry collections published by Flapjack Press, most recently ‘On Not Being Observed’ (2024). Much of his work is autobiographical but with a strong emphasis on place and nature. He has read his work across the Northwest and been an active UK organiser in the annual international poetry showcase ‘Poets Building Bridges’ founded by George Wallace. He has been translated into Tamil and his inspirations include the T’ang Dynasty poets Li Po and Tu Fu, US eco-poet Gary Snyder and Leeds poet Tony Harrison.

“Searingly straight-talking, soulful poems grounded in Northern working-class imagery, landscapes and humour.”

“Morgan writes with a mystical sensibility that resonates universally. Beautiful poems that are rooted in memory, but never give way to nostalgia.”

Join Dave as he reads and pays tribute to wild environments such as Winter Hill and Snowdon as well as reflecting on the urban landscape, including parks, cemeteries and public houses.

Made possible with support from Healthy Arts and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players.
