Welcome to the Walking Tour of Astley Graveyard.
Come join us on this tour for a unique experience exploring the history and stories of the site of the former St Stephen’s Church in Astley. This tour will take you through the graveyard which dates back to the 17th century, and we will learn about the notable individuals buried here and the significance of this historical site.
The first chapel was built on the site in1631 and pulled down in 1760 when it was replaced with a larger and grander church. This second St. Stephen’s was a place of worship for the people of Astley until a disastrous fire 1961.
Note: We will meet at the entrance to the Damhouse estate (Astley Hall Drive), which is located opposite the site of the graveyard. There is a free car park located in the grounds of Damhouse (M29 7TX).
