Hunter gatherers living in the middle stone age – or the Mesolithic period – were masters of their environment. Thanks to artefacts and research we are continuing to discover more about heir fascinating lives, showing they were far from the simple-minded cavemen portrayed in popular culture.
Join us at Lunt Meadows on Wednesday 23rd July to learn all about hunter gather life in the middle stone age. There will be opportunities to have a go at making important stone age survival items such as cordage, pendants and fishing nets under the guidance of archaeologists from the University of Chester. There will also be archaeologists who can talk about life in the Stone Age and visitors will have the chance to handle replica artefacts that would have made up a Middle Stone Age hunter-gather’s everyday tool kit. This event is suitable for adults and children. Children under 4 are free, but please still select a free ticket for them so we know how many people to expect.
As this event is outdoors please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy outdoor shoes. If you plan on staying on the reserve for a few hours we advise that you bring refreshments.
This event is part of the Festival of Archaeology and Lunt Meadow’s Mesolithic and Modern Life Project made possible players of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
