So what’s this all about then?
Great question. We’re working it out so bear with us. Here’s a backstory for some context.
Amy lives in Longridge and has 3 kids. She wanted cheap and fun things to do in Lancashire last minute, but the only things she could find were facebook groups to trawl through and generally be confronted with thousands of business posts, or websites for big events and shows across Lancashire. She just wanted to know what’s on tomorrow without much planning because she lacks organisational skills or forethought.
So in came “Things to do in Lancashire” facebook group where everyone could share their events and Amy would get first dibs with some vague idea it might turn into a small business of its own one day. It started with Amy and her good friend Tor, and although they had great plans for it, they had 5 kids and several jobs between them so promptly lost momentum.
Tor bailed (but I still love ya Tor 😉) and Amy tried to give it away, she really did. Luckily Phil (who happens to live 2 doors down from Amy) volunteered to take it on and persuaded her to stick around. He ditched the business posts and we decided to stick strictly to “things to do” in Lancashire and recommendations (so go and recommend your mates’ business!), and Amy gee’d it all up a bit by indulging in showing off some of her ill advised days out with her kids (with cries of, “wow you sound like a great mum” counteracted with, “you should be ashamed of yourself!”) Then the bloody thing only went and grew to 65 thousand members and we thought we should probably organise things a bit better and find a way to promote local businesses.
So now we have the online calendar where anyone can post their events/classes/activities for free! We’re pretty proud of ourselves for this because we are extremely time poor and it is not free for us to provide it, but we want to create an awesome resource for Lancashire folk to find great things to do, and for smaller scale businesses to be able to share what they do without breaking the bank.
This is absolutely a labour of love – and still a bit selfish because sometimes we book onto things before we share them sorrynotsorry – so please support us by telling your mates to sign up for the Things to do in Lancashire newsletter so they’ll always know what’s on, and sharing the calendar with everyone you know who organises any sort of events https://thingstodinlancs.co.uk/events/community/add.
Soon we’ll be offering ways to promote Lancashire businesses through business listings, guest blogs, banners and some other things we haven’t thought of yet. Luckily for everyone we’re both in gainful employment so we’re keeping things low cost for the sake of this fabulous community, because there’s a lot of great stuff going on in Lancashire that need to be shouted about.
Lancs love,
Amy & Phil
